From this bug report, it looks like they've made __clone private and removed PHP5's clone() function?
If that's the case then there's no backward compatible solution ... thoughts?

This bug has been fixed in CVS.
If this was a documentation problem, the fix will appear on pear.php.net by the end of next Sunday (CET).
If this was a problem with the pear.php.net website, the change should be live shortly.
Otherwise, the fix will appear in the package's next release.

It's not just private, you can't call it from within the same class even. Oddly using a variable function call, e.g. $func = '__clone'; $object->$func(); does work, I've committed that dodge but we should keep an eye on this.
