The link provided(http://phpguru.org/tree.html) to your Tree class in the comments for the function createFromXML() is invalid. It looks like it's now http://www.phpguru.org/static/treemenu.html
As this is required for the function to work properly, why you can't just fold that in with this class or or the PEAR Tree class is a bit of a mystery to me. It definitely makes managing PEAR packages a bit more difficult.

OK so the valid link to phpguru.org I put in just points back to this package.

But it's also worth noting that you need Tree-1.0.3 to obtain the required createFromXMLTree() function. The current 2.0.0 version does not contain it.
