PEAR_PackageFile::fromTgzFile is meant to create a package file object from the package.xml in an .tgz archive.
That fails if the package.xml is not in the root directoy, but in an subdirectory.
The code that tries to cover this is wrong:

} elseif (ereg('package.xml$', $name, $match)) {
$xml = $match[0];
break;
this should actually be $xml = $name, because Archive_Tar would try to search for "package.xml" only and not $subdir/package.xml

This bug has been fixed in CVS.
If this was a documentation problem, the fix will appear on pear.php.net by the end of next Sunday (CET).
If this was a problem with the pear.php.net website, the change should be live shortly.
Otherwise, the fix will appear in the package's next release.
