When I run "php -m", I see "php-gtk" as extension (php-gtk 2.0.1).

ok, i see where you're heading to.
as in my distro the rpm package is called php-gtk2
$ rpm -q php-gtk2
php-gtk2-2.0.2-1.i686
$ php -m | grep -i gtk
php-gtk
yet to follow php-<EXTNAME> convention, (rpm package0 it should be named "php-php-gtk" which is plain silly.
i suppose that should open feature request to rename module name in gtk extension instead.

hmm, seems it was ok before it was renamed ca 9 years ago:
from php-gtk2 NEWS.pre-2-0 :
