Description: ------------ I would like to release my project SMAK (http://www.squadrainformatica.com/smak/) under the GPL licence but I'm having many troubles with free non compatible classes used to build smak (4 on 16). One of these classes is Net/Ping: it's licensed under the PHP license. So I'm asking to you if is there the possibility to move the license from PHP to New BSD one, or to have a double licensing. Php an bsd license are quite equal, but the php license has a rule: the word "PHP" can't be used in the name of any php based project. This is freedom containment and for this reason php license is considered by GNU not compatible with GPL. That's why I think it's worth the trouble to change the license. You can read all the thread I had with a Savannah member https://savannah.gnu.org/task/?8427 Thank you in advance

The proposed new License is the new BSD license: http://www.opensource.org/licenses/bsd-license.html This change would also be in agreement with the latest PEAR dev guidelines on licensing: http://pear.php.net/manual/en/developers.contributing.php The Net_Ping package authors are as follows. If each of these authors posts an affirmative comment on this feature request, then I will change the license and update the package appropriately. Martin Jansen <mj@php.net> Tomas V.V.Cox <cox@idecnet.com> Jan Lehnardt <jan@php.net> Kai Schroeder <k.schroeder@php.net> Craig Constantine <cconstantine@php.net>

I agree to this license change.

This obviously isn't going anywhere. Marking it "won't fix" and closing

Sorry, but your problem does not imply a bug in PEAR itself. For a list of more appropriate places to ask for help using PEAR, please visit http://pear.php.net/support/ as this bug system is not the appropriate forum for asking support questions. Thank you for your interest in PEAR. mandatory comment here.

That's so sad. It's a kind of lost for the open source community. Anyway, thanks for the support Cheers!

Craig, I would like to point out that Jan, Martin and Thomas have all agreed to the license change. Only Kai is left. Have you tried contacting any of them privately ? Since bug reports are not sent out to people marked inactive. Going to reopen this for now. (btw this one should have been closed with won't fix instead of bogus given the reasons you gave.)

I would again like to bring this issue to the front. I am looking to package a piece of software for Debian, that uses Net_Ping. This means pacakging Net_Ping as well... and it would be greatly ease this if the licence could be changed as proposed to BSD
