This bug goes far beyond just this package, so I've raised it at php.net: http://bugs.php.net/bug.php?id=52404 Once that's resolved, this can be closed too.

That one seems still open - anything we can do in the meanwhile?

Just roll back the Vera.ttf in this package to before it was changed by rasmus or import a fresh working copy of Vera.ttf. Then at least this bug can be closed...

http://ftp.gnome.org/pub/GNOME/sources/ttf-bitstream-vera/1.10/ seems to be where it's from, but it seems identical.

There is a difference, the End Of Line (EOL) is different. * The Vera.ttf file here uses "Mixed" EOL: https://github.com/pear/Image_Text/raw/master/tests/Vera.ttf * The Vera.ttf from here uses "Unix" EOL: http://ftp.gnome.org/pub/GNOME/sources/ttf-bitstream-vera/1.10/ttf-bitstream-vera- 1.10.zip You'll find that rasmus messed it up in r284292 as per the PHP bug 52404.

This bug has been fixed in SVN. If this was a documentation problem, the fix will appear on pear.php.net by the end of next Sunday (CET). If this was a problem with the pear.php.net website, the change should be live shortly. Otherwise, the fix will appear in the package's next release. Thank you for the report and for helping us make PEAR better.
