When installing a package from a file, you are supplied with a link to "View package information". However, when you click on the link, the following message appears parsePackageName(): only channel:// uris may be downloaded, not "c:/Users/Username/[packagename]-0.1.2.tgz".
Either it should be possible to view the package info, which I think would be the correct solution, or the link should not appear.

This bug has been fixed in CVS.
If this was a documentation problem, the fix will appear on pear.php.net by the end of next Sunday (CET).
If this was a problem with the pear.php.net website, the change should be live shortly.
Otherwise, the fix will appear in the package's next release.

I agree, and I thought a solution wasn't possible. But I've fixed it now by calling parsePackageName myself and if it errors on me, not displaying the link as you suggested.
