It'd be cool if the tool would also generate the php code for tpl initialization and block definition.

Partially fixed with 1.4.0a2, just options to set $tpl variable name missing.

Thank you for your bug report. This issue has been fixed
in the latest released version of the package, which you can download at
http://pear.php.net/get/HTML_Template_PHPLIB
Fixed in 1.4.0
