To help people less familiar with PEAR and channels, it might be helpfull to change the message that pops up when a channel has been updated from
WARNING: channel "pear.php.net" has updated its protocols, use "channel-update pear.php.net" to update
to
WARNING: channel "pear.php.net" has updated its protocols, use "pear channel-update pear.php.net" to update
It would be even nicer if the PEAR program would (ask for confirmation and then) automaticly update this information.

This bug has been fixed in CVS.
If this was a documentation problem, the fix will appear on pear.php.net by the end of next Sunday (CET).
If this was a problem with the pear.php.net website, the change should be live shortly.
Otherwise, the fix will appear in the package's next release.

No automatic behaviour in v1
