Hello techtonik, Currently, go-pear does not understand the '~' symbol in the bash-way you do, please type out your homedirectory in full and try again.

Would it be hard to substitute $_ENV("HOME") (or whatever is set in Linux) for ~?

Nope, not hard, but it had some subtleties Attached a patch that fixes it cleanly, it will be put in CVS by someone soon.

This bug has been fixed in CVS. If this was a documentation problem, the fix will appear on pear.php.net by the end of next Sunday (CET). If this was a problem with the pear.php.net website, the change should be live shortly. Otherwise, the fix will appear in the package's next release. Thank you for the report and for helping us make PEAR better. had to modify the patch quite a bit, but it will be in 1.16.0
