Description: ------------ http://pear.php.net/manual/en/package.networking.net-ipv4.validateip.php Net_IPv4::validateIP() -- Validate the syntax of the given IP adress. observations: missing business rules... what qualifies as a valid IP address and/or what does not... cross-reference to RFC#### as applicable... context of IP in 'bigger picture' of web sites ought to include other forms of web related data values (domain names, e-addresses, URLs, et al)... consideration for issues when dealing with subnet and/or firewalls and/or VPN... suggestions: function to validate domain name against DNS function to validate e-address against (default) e-mail server likely to be associated with domain name function to validate URL as being accessible although IP-V6 is not as commonly in use as it ought to, the documentation and function lib should cross-refernce whatever there is already been done that focuses on that topic...

I think we can expect people to know how an IPv4 address should look like.
