This bug is perplexing me. The error says that $this cannot be re-assigned, which is a known change in php5. But, $this is not being re-assigned, $target is.

Not enough information was provided for us to be able to handle this bug. Please re-read the instructions at http://bugs.php.net/how-to-report.php If you can provide more information, feel free to add it to this bug and change the status back to "Open". Thank you for your interest in PEAR. I can't reproduce this and I've gotten no input from the bug reporter on this.

$this does not have to be "reassigned" by the coder; the mere use of it outside of a class structure causes PHP to try to "assign" it to one, and finding none, throws this error. I was using a variable named $this in a function context and got this same error from all users who tried to use it on PHP5. I documented a fix here: <http://www.greywyvern.com/forum.php?msg=545> Just changing the name of the $this variable to something else was all that was necessary. Note: This error will *not* appear in 4.x.x versions of PHP. ONLY in 5.x.x
